When children are hospitalized, information exchange is vital and critical, but constrained by emotional stress, time and learning aptitudes. Parents need to comprehend information to make informed decisions for their child’s care and practitioners need parent information for diagnosis and care purposes. Currently, this information is exchanged in informal conversations.

A combination of the child’s personal medical record and an educational database, Joshua provides parents with access to relevant education and opportunities to share information. Practitioners can track the family's educational efforts.
